I’m not good with words. I think I like numbers better. But even through numbers and equations, I still can’t formulate anything sensible and/or articulate (enough) to describe how awesome the time I spent with you was.

** Excuses, excuses for not writing a lot lately. I’m so sorry I’m in such a weird funk.

Reds and Yellows

My sorrow, when she’s here with me,
Thinks these dark days of autumn rain
Are beautiful as days can be;
She loves the bare, the withered tree;
She walks the sodden pasture lane.
Robert Frost
My November Guest

Last Saturday we trudged over to Tachikawa City to roam around the Showa Park. The colors were awesome. It was one of the best photo-sessions in my short lifespan as a pseudo-picture-taker. I dunno if it was because the reds and yellows and oranges were so vivid or maybe because I was just in the right mood. Either way, it was fun, fun, fun. Also, spending the day with awesome friends didn’t hurt. A big shout-out to Guia, Jac, Mayen, Vanush, Sheen, Meemers, and Moogs for such a great day.

「Kyomizudera」 Monk by kilcher

Kyomizudera (Pure Water Temple) is built into the side of Otowayama mountain on the east side of Kyoto, Japan. The original temple dates back to 780 AD and remains associated with Nara/Hosso Buddhism, the oldest sect within Japanese Buddhism. It was built without the use of nails. The people who built Kyomizudera understood. When you walk along its wooden promenade, look out over the chasm and see the mountains and trees above and the whole city of Kyoto laid out beneath your feet, you can have only one thought: This is why we build temples. You are surrounded by a sea of wooden gates, stone guardians, lanterns, pagodas and stairs that just keep going up. Then, suddenly, Kyomizudera. A temple so large you can’t even see it. Because it’s built into the mountainside, supported by 139 pillars, and all you can do is stand inside and look out. [Source]

sometimes, gravity just takes hold and pulls anything that has mass and occupies space towards the  ground — solid concrete or soft soil or grassy meadows or murky waters or wherever depending on where you are.

but then again, if it’s not the concrete, it’s towards another object, and that force of gravitation between you two is proportional to the mass of the pullee times the mass of the puller and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the elements involved — BUT, in this case, though, newton’s theory of universal gravitation was proven false, no amount of distance lessened the F.

so, i’m really sorry.

there was nothing i could do. you can’t fight gravity. no one could.

Boy and girl

If a 50 kg (110 lb) girl sat 0.5 m (19.7 in) from a boy who was 75 kg (165 lb), what would be the gravitational attraction between them?

Substituting the values into the equation, you get:

F = GMm/R² = (6.67*10-11 N-m²/kg²)(50 kg)(75 kg)/(0.5 m)(0.5 m) = 10-6 N or one-millionth of a Newton

That is a very small gravitational attraction, but it can be measured on a sensitive instrument.

Effect of Moon on person

The gravitational pull from the Moon on the 50 kg (110 pound) girl is:

F = GMm/R² = (6.67*10-11 N-m²/kg²)(50 kg)(7.35*1022 kg)/(3.84*108 m)² = 1.67*10-3 N = 0.00167 N

She would not notice the pull from the Moon, since the gravitation pull on her toward the Earth is 490 N. But still, she is attracted more toward the moon than the boy who was sitting next to her.

OMFG, I’ve been 26 for, like, eons already. I can only hope I already know what I’m doing.

…started with a win over Georgia Tech.

Super-Sophomore (and ESPN Pre-Season Player of the Year) Maya Moore tallied 20 points and 14 boards to help the Huskies pull away from the Yellow Jackets and emerge with a 82-71 season-opening win Sunday.

The game was tied at the half, and the Huskies led 65-62 with 6:55 to play. UConn closed the game on a 17-9 run.

「Gion」 Busy Streets of Gion
| originally uploaded by kilcher

Gion (祇園) is a district of Kyoto, Japan, originally developed in the Middle Ages, in front of Yasaka Shrine. The district was built to accommodate the needs of travelers and visitors to the shrine. It eventually evolved to become one of the most exclusive and well-known geisha districts in all of Japan.

Sadly we weren’t able to spot any geisha or the traditional Japanese side-streets because it was already dark and we were already tired (excuses! excuses! excuses!).

「Kinkakuji」 Golden Pavillion
「Kinkakuji」 Golden Pavillion originally uploaded by kilcher

Kinkaku-ji (金閣寺 Golden Pavilion Temple) is the informal name of Rokuon-ji (鹿苑寺, Deer Garden Temple) in Kyoto, Japan. It was originally built in 1397 to serve as a retirement villa for Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, as part of his estate then known as Kitayama.[1] It was his son who converted the building into a Zen temple of the Rinzai school. The temple was burned down twice during the Ōnin War.
