Take a Step Back and Breathe

// July 4th, 2007 // Poetry

Zipping through the open freeway
Gunning for 120 almost every single day
Not caring about what you’re passing
Eyes looking ahead, never wavering.

Breaking records, winning it all
Gritting your teeth to reach that goal
Who you were with, you didn’t know
What you were feeling, you didn’t show

But baby, shouldn’t you step back
Stop for a while, breathe for a while,
Been cruising quickly in this game of life
Stop for a while and let me have that chance
To see the wonder of your smile.

I take my own way and head on mindlessly
Not as fast as you but almost getting there
It’s almost too late when I had to see
Not again will we cross the path of one another.

So baby, shouldn’t we slam on the breaks
Stop for a while, breathe for a while,
Been moving quickly in this game of life
Stop for a while and let me have that chance
to show you I’m worth your while.

Stop for a while and let me have that chance
oh yeah, I’m really worth your while.
